A Note of Thanks from the Editor-in-Chief

I was deeply touched and a bit overwhelmed at the outpouring of support and good wishes I received after I wrote my Dec. 12 column about my father’s battle with cancer. It proved yet again that there is no shortage of good people in the legal community or in the world in general. It meant a lot to me to read the many emails and letters I received, as well as listen to the voicemails.

And I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to several people in the legal community who were truly extraordinary in their offers of help and support. Their kindness was inspirational and helped bolster my spirits.

I’ve tried to reach out and thank personally everyone who contacted me, but I know I’ve missed a few, including one lawyer whose number I misplaced. He had called to offer support and said in his message: “You don’t know me from Adam, but I know what you’re going through.” His was one of the first messages I received after the column appeared. If he should read this all I can say is: Call me back; I’d like to thank you.

As for Papa Grez, I wish I could report that things were better. He was supposed to be operated on Jan. 15. When the doctors went in, there were complications, and now they can’t perform the surgery. His spirits are still good even as the circumstances get more difficult. I saw him twice this weekend and both times he spoke about eating again and playing golf.

His birthday is in a few weeks. He’ll be turning 65. I wish I could buy him a good steak dinner and treat him to a round of golf, but I guess some things will just have to wait.

Marshall Dennehey Re-Elects Officers, Directors

Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin re-elected several of its directors and and senior officers at its annual shareholders’ meeting on Dec. 6.

Thomas A. Brophy was re-elected as president and chief executive officer and will will also continue his role as the director of the casualty litigation department.

Peter S. Miller was re-elected as chariman of the board of directors and as chief operating officer. Miller is the director of the workers’ compensation and employment practices department.

Philip B. Toran was re-elected as chairman of the executive committee and treasurer. He also directs the firm’s professional liability department.

Kathleen S. McGrath was re-elected as senior vice president and secretary of the firm. She is in the King of Prussia office and serves as director of the firm’s health care liability practice.

Thomas R. Bond was re-elected as senior vice president and assistant treasurer of the firm. He also serves as the director of client relations and development.

Butler Buchanan III was re-elected as senior vice president and assistant secreatary, Candy Barr Heimbach of the Bethleham office was re-elected as a senior vice president, Scott G. Dunlop was re-elected as a senior vice president and serves as the Pittsburgh office managing partner and Thomas C. DeLorenzo was elected as a senior vice president. DeLorenzo is chairman of the employment practices litigation practice.
